Date night restaurants in Cedar Rapids tend to fall into two categories: expensive places that require a reservation three weeks out, and casual spots that feel like every other night. Pita Kabab is neither.
We are a casual, relaxed restaurant with genuinely interesting food — the kind of dinner where you end up talking about the food while you eat it. Mediterranean cuisine is built around sharing, which makes for a more interactive dinner than each person staring at their own plate.
What to Order for Two
Start by ordering the hummus ($7.99 small) with warm pita bread. It is house-made from scratch every morning and gives you something to eat while everything else is being prepared.
For the main event, order a platter to share. The Mix Grill ($23.99) gives you three different charcoal-grilled proteins — beef kabab, chicken tikka, and shish kabab — served with rice and two sides. Or each person orders their own platter: the Kafta Kabab ($19.99) and Chicken Tikka ($19.99) are both excellent choices.
If you want seafood, the Salmon platter ($23.99) and Jumbo Shrimp platter ($23.99) are charcoal-grilled and consistently good. The Seafood Mix Grill ($29.99) — whole fish plus shrimp or salmon — is the most impressive option on the menu.
Finish with Turkish Coffee ($2.48). This is where Pita Kabab is uniquely different from every other restaurant in Cedar Rapids. Turkish coffee is brewed in a small traditional pot (cezve) and served in a small cup — strong, rich, and completely unlike anything you can get at a chain coffee shop. It is a conversation piece and a satisfying end to the meal.
The Date Night Atmosphere
We are counter-service, which means no formal dress code, no reservations, and no waiting for a host — just great food shared across the table. The dining room is relaxed and unhurried, a welcome contrast to the loud sports bars and predictable chain restaurants that fill most Cedar Rapids date night lists. It is a more intimate, more interesting dinner — and much easier on the wallet than a formal restaurant.
